This….’thing’ is Palpatine’s insight form he gains from the Sith Leech god. How did he obtain it you ask? Well he just had to the eat several of the Sith’s god’s leechlings alive. YUM.

Here some more info about him. His name is Jay-Nilik and he’s a Miraluka. The leech that had been attached to his neck had actually been there for a very long tim and caused serious damage.

Jay is very physically weak, just doing some simple katas is enough to make him pass out. Because of this, he is almost nearly removed from training as a Jedi, seeing as he is unable to use a lightsaber, but Anakin stops this.

Anakin feels partly responsible of Jay, feeling like he failed the boy as he did not notice the leech sooner and remove it before it could so any permanent damage, so he’s like, nope this kid wants to be a jedi and I’m going help him become one.

Jay is still slightly too young to become an apprentice, but that doesn’t mean Anakin can’t still help. With the knowledge of the slugs, Anakin is able to help Jay intune with his own slug, enabling him to easily use the force without any effort. And Anakin is like, well you can’t physically hold a lightsaber, but what’s stopping you from using the force to float it around instead?

Of course Jay gets EVEN more attached to Anakin now, and it’s not rare to see him bolt down the temple and barrel into Anakin, only to pass out from the effort and having Anakin carry him back to his room, both concerned and amused.
