If the boy wasn’t Shmi’s then Jango might have boxed his ears when he smelled the unfamiliar scent of an omega on him when he finally arrived with Rex at the cave, everyone pausing to watch and scent Anakin as he swam past them.
The clear scent of a sweet omega clings to Anakin.
It makes it very clear why the other had been out way past the normal time they all returned and Jango had needed to send Rex out to collect the damn boy.
And Jango was severely unimpressed as he crossed his arms over his chest and gave Anakin a flat stare, flickering his scarred tail fin with narrowed eyes.
Quickly however, Anakin raised his hands. “Before you ask clan head, I didn’t tell him where our clan was or do anything rushed. We simply talked and showed off to each other.” He stated abashedly, his own tail flickering nervously while rustling the gossamer of his ears.
Narrowing his eyes thoughtfully, Jango finally after several minutes gave a small grunt and nod, Anakin relaxing instantly. “Fine, at least you have that much sense.” He grumbled before pulling Anakin in and pushing him towards their meal chamber to the gathered food the hunting party had collected today.
Flushing a bit, Anakin muttered before obediently moving to eat, most likely starved if he had been showing off to an omega enough to forget time.
Snorting faintly, Jango gave a small nod to Rex, his son giving a grin and a thumb up before swimming to find his twin, Cody and him being the first watch of the night.
His entire pod now safe in their home, Jango allowed himself to relax, settling down on one of the rounded rocks they had dragged in to groom his own tail even as his mind started to catalog the sweet unfamiliar yet somehow familiar scent.
Because it was familiar in a way that was bugging Jango.
Like he had smelled it before somewhere and not just because it was the sweet scent of an omega, a scent that was familiar to anyone that had ever meet an omega.
No, this particular scent was familiar to him.
Frowning at his tail, tugging out a graying scale from the rush of amber, Jango mentally reviewed the list of omegas he knew.
There weren’t many in these parts if he was honest and it wasn’t all that shocking that someone of them had found one outside of the pod.
And matching up with someone too close to the family was a bad idea even if some did.
But that smell…
It was bothering Jango a bit, how the scent almost made an ache appear in his chest and the need to go find whoever owned the scent clinging so faintly to Anakin. The urge to find and protect was something Jango needed to squash as night was falling and going out was unsafe, lest any sharks be around to make a meal of a lonesome mer.
Jango could fight, but that didn’t mean he wanted to meet up with a fucking great white.
Pausing, he looked to Anakin, rolling his eyes a bit when he saw the kid cracking open a crab to suck the insides. “The omega, they safe?” He grunted out once Anakin was pausing between legs.
Anakin paused too, blinking at Jango. “I mean, I think so. He didn’t really have a place set up so he bunked up in that human vessel out in the kelp plains.” Anakin grimaced heavily as he said that, his hands clenching on the crab leg in his grasp.
Not that Jango was any better, a silent snarl on his lips.
No one from the Fett pod liked humans.
Not after what had happened to Shmi and later on Echo.
Unwillingly, Jango’s eyes slid to one of his youngest, watching Echo awkwardly swim to his sleeping sand beside Fives, his mangled tail making it difficult.
“…Bring them around tomorrow, don’t want any omega to be caught up with humans again.” He grumbled.
Surprise registered over Anakin’s face before it turned to delight. “Yes! Of course clan head!” Anakin was almost barking in delight, his fins quivering visibly like a young pup.
Rolling his eyes, hiding a small smile, Jango went back to his grooming even as he tried to catalog that scent.
The cool silver light had filtered through the water. Each mer singing in the hopes of attracting a mate.
Anakin has sung his song time and time before but no one had returned his calls. He had no doubt that no one would be joining him, yet he felt the need to continue to sing. The moon hung at the top of the sky and many other deep sea mer had begun to pair together with a prospective mate. Anakin was about to give up when he picked up the sweet smell of an omega. Opening his eyes, the younger merman spotted him.
Clear blue eyes stared into glowing yellow as Obi-Wan looked at the other merman. He noted the red glow that originated from Anakin’s tail and the shiny red black scales that seemed to absorb all light. It was different from his own pale pearl tail that could only reflect the light. He swam closer to investigate the strange and attractive merman.
Anakin noted that the pale merman was not able to produce his own light, but seemed to be reflecting the light of the moon, giving him an ethereal glow . Immediately Anakin was enthralled by the beauty. He demonstrated how fit he was by bolting away and speeding back to where the other merman hovered.
“Hello there.” Obi-Wan said, a small smile gracing his face as Anakin approached him.
The two did not realize they were talking for hours. The moon had begun to set and Quinlan had realized that Anakin had failed to meet up with the rest of their pod. The older merman found the blonde talking with a merman he had never encountered before. They were clearly flirting, but the sun was rising and they pod would run out of time returning to the depths for another month.
He finally managed to get the two to separate, by reminding Anakin it was time to return to the abyss. It was dangerous for them to be out in the open ocean. Anakin understood his podmate’s concern and left with him towards the depths. However, neither mermen realized that the curious shallow, sunlight merman, had decided to trail behind into the darkness.
