SheeveSon O.O Obi Wan wakes up to find out the Emperor is pulling the Jedi off the no longer existing front lines and has turned the army over to the Empire, so public moral is up, the Jedi are more popular since they are no longer ‘war generals’, and the Temple is back to its PROPER function of soothing ruffled feathers. For the low cost of erasing the old order. So how does the new order of the Jedi react? Relief that they are no longer dying in droves? Hysterical laughter? Booze party???
The soft sound of tea boiling is filling the room, Obi-Wan focusing
on it and not the rockets he could still hear blowing up outside,
people celebrating all over about the end of the war and finally
peace settling in.
Even the temple, despite its losses, feel lighter and calmer.
Its almost enough to sooth Obi-Wan’s guilt at times when he was
alone without his Anakin to sooth at the frazzled emotions as he
leans against the window sill to watch the world outside the temple.
“Are you happy?”
Obi-Wan stared at his own hands at that before looking to the side,
watching the sheer blue shape of Qui-Gon sitting on his couch. “…”
He didn’t say a word.
The man slowly stood and walked towards him, perhaps a habit of being
alive made him move around things instead of through them, until he
was in front of Obi-Wan. “Are you happy with what you and Anakin
have done?” Qui-Gon questioned again, his features worn and looking
just like the last time Obi-Wan had seen him, near death.
“The temple still lives.” He offered quietly in return, still listening to
the kettle boiling and the smell of spicy tea filling the air. “I
will live with my guilt for the rest of my life but the temple still
lives.” He whispered.
“At what price?” Qui-Gon whispered in return, brows furrowed,
visibly upset.
“At the price of the old Order so the new will not die. Reformation
is never peaceful Qui-Gon. The only difference here is that it was
betrayal from within that lead to this.” Obi-Wan sighed then moved
towards the kitchen. “I know you don’t put stock in visions, but
I saw the alternative and it would have been pain and suffering
without measure.” He pulled the kettle of the burner.
“It is already pain and suffering.” Qui-Gon argued.
“But the younglings still live.” Obi-Wan returned sharply and
looked at him. “I am still here and Sheev Palpatine trusts me. If
nothing else you will hear that. I will keep an eye on all of it, I
will watch his apprentices and Anakin will never stray from my side.”
He poured his tea then moved back to the shimmering blue shape.
“…The cost Obi-Wan…” Qui-Gon whispered.
“You were the one to bring the chosen one here.” Obi-Wan returned
before reaching up. “You must have known that too much light needed
to be put out by darkness. Balance you spoke off.” His hand cupped
the blue cheek.
It did not feel tangible yet at the same time his hand was not
passing through it.
“Believe me when I say this, I am not Fallen, I am not Dark. I
belong to the Light and always will.” Obi-Wan whispered. “And
here I will stay and watch the Sith and fend for the younglings of
this temple. I will stay here and ensure their safety and their
happiness like others did not for me. And I will remember the lessons
of the old but the times are new Qui-Gon Jinn… and the Galaxy needs
Jedi who are not scared of attachment or love or compassion.”
A tear slowly rolled down Obi-Wan’s cheek to fade into his beard.
“I will not paint the old order as anything but the trying
honorable people they were… and I will carry the guilt of their
deaths… until the day I die. And on that day, the Force can judge
me as it wants and if I’m going to hell then… that’s alright.”
Obi-Wan smiled faintly.
Qui-Gon stared at him for a long moment before he faded away,
Obi-Wan’s hand hovering in the air for a few moments before it
dropped.
He turned back to the window was another firework exploded over the
Senate Rotunda. “…Alright … Lets get on with it.” He wiped
his face and looked up as the door opened, smiling as Anakin slipped
in and hurried to Obi-Wan’s side, the blond grinning as he wrapped
his arms around him.
It was a new dawn for the Order of Jedi.
