all-of-my-yesterdays:

Unbeknownst to the smaller merman, there were a number of humans looking to add him to their rare and exotic creatures collections. His tail was an unusual because he was unable to produce any of his own bioluminescence, forcing him to stay closer to the surface. The beautiful pearl like scales were able to reflect any light making him look radiant, but it also put him at risk. Anakin knew what those humans were capable of. They killed his mother and they were not going to kill his mate if he could help it.

Obi-Wan panicked as he saw his mate return with a gash in his side. “Anakin!?”

He quickly swam over, wrapping himself around his mate and gently cupping his face. Worry was evident on the smaller merman’s face but Anakin just smiled softly. He was relieved to see that the auburn haired merman was safe. “It’s fine Obi-Wan, I’m fine.” He murmured into the other male’s shoulder.

“What were you even thinking?” He asked looking at deep wound. He gently coaxed the other’s head off his shoulder to look at the glowing gold eyes.

“I was thinking I was going to protect you.” The grin should not have been as endearing as it was. “I will not let anyone take you away from me, Obi-Wan.”

Blue grey eyes stared into the gold ones, confused about what the other merman was protecthing him from exactly. He was a competent fighter and was able to to defend himself. Plus, their pod had also grown from just the two of them after they had met Rex and Cody, so it was not like he was had no one besides Anakin watching his back anymore.
